Cashiers process customer purchases correctly, collects payments and returns accurate change. Cashiers communicate regularly with customers throughout the day, on a day to day basis. Cashiers also communicate with supervisors any general or customer related issues.
Cashiers generally carry out the following duties:
Communicate to customers about special offers, store policies and answer any of their store related queries
Process customer purchases
Collect payments and returns change and receipts accurately
Package customer items properly
Maintains the cleanliness of work station and stock of supplies
Count and record the monies in their register accurately at the beginning and end of shift
No formal education is required for cashiers; they are trained on the job.
In order to test cashiers effectively, employers usually administer the Customer Service Personality test to evaluate the individual’s customer service qualities and willingness to communicate amicably with customers regularly. The Work ethics test is also another favorable test which assesses the individual’s general attitude towards work. Lastly the maths business test and cognitive IQ tests should be administered to assess an individuals basic arithmetic knowledge and problem solving skills as these idividuals handles daily financial functions.
