Duties

Barbers, hairstylists and cosmetologists generally carry out the following duties:

  • Cut or style hair

  • Suggest best practices for care and maintenance based on analyzing client’s hair, skin and scalp

  • Wash, color, lighten and condition hair

  • Discuss different hair styles with clients

  • Change hair texture using chemicals

  • Take payments

  • Sanitize and maintain equipment and surroundings


Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Licensing is usually required in all states which can be achieved through a post-secondary vocational training school.

 

Testing

In order to test Barbers, hairstylists and cosmetologists effectively, employers usually administer the eye test and the customer service test and the work ethics test to asses the visual acuity, personality and the work ethics of these personnel. Lastly, the work ethics personality test which would be u used to assess an individuals work ethic and ethical code of conduct.
